This has happened to all of us...
Just yesterday, I accidentally clicked on the middle of the timeline in a scene where I had a complex Carbon Simulation set up.
And off it went; Carbon will automatically simulate up to that frame, unless the simulation is deactivated.
And when your Simulation contains some large Cloths, this can take a while.
Similar situation, I opened a file which someone saved on frame 1000, but the Carbon Simulation Start Frame is 1... no way I'll sit around and wait for 1000 frames to be simulated. Especially when I don't even know if the Simulation is set up properly.

Luckily, you can interrupt any Carbon Simulation in Maya and Houdini with the Escape key on your keyboard.
Simply press and hold the Esc key until the Simulation is interrupted.
Carbon checks for the physical state of the button, so please keep pressing it until the Simulation is interrupted.
