Both the server and the client support log files that can tell you a lot about what is and is not happening.
The server log file is enabled by default, its also possible to increase the log information by enabling extended mode - all set in this file lmx-serv.cfg
Client logging can be enabled by setting environment variable LMX_EXTENDEDLOG=C:\some location maya or houdini can access\lmx-extended.txt
